Thursday morning quick picks

Thanks to everyone who sent both private and public get-well wishes for Madison—as of this morning, she seems to be feeling a lot better. She’s not quite back to her old self, but she felt well enough to put in a pick for today, and she’s much perkier than she’s been over the last few days. The trick now will be to figure out how I can administer antibiotics to a more energized Madison without bloodying myself in the process.

And in other good news, Early Response’s new owner Maggi Moss wrote in granting me visitation rights, an incredibly generous gesture to a total stranger. I hope to take her up on that offer and make it out to the Belmont backstretch within the next few weeks.

And just to keep the feel-good theme going, check out Maryjean Wall’s site for a look at some of this year’s foal crop, and Pull the Pocket for a hilarious re-cap of Monday’s racing episode of CSI: Miami, first noted by Dana at Green but Game, who continues to monitor racing themes on the small screen.

Spent tonight at the theater seeing a terrific performance of Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, so this is a brief update, but I can’t resist pointing out the nunnery early double at Aqueduct: Sister Kathleen and Sister Lou Ann. Hey, for an investment of $2 and a couple of Hail Marys, you never know…

  1. Sincere get-well wishes for the beloved feline, Madison. And here’s a very helpful link to assist you in the administration of antibiotics for your kitty.Dogs are so much easier to administer pills. Just wrap the pill in bacon and throw it up in the air!

  2. Glad to hear Madison is getting better. My man is on antibiotics at the moment for an abscessed paw. He’s confined to quarters and is going stir crazy (we’ve only just ‘officially’ adopted him, he’s a stray). He gets his antibiotics sprinked in some food (they’re in capsule form) and he eats it right up. Next week isn’t going to be a good one for him – he’s getting gelded!

  3. Thanks for your good wishes, folks, and Sue, for that article written by someone who’s clearly been spying on me! As of this morning, Madison is doing much better–thank goodness.
