The last time the Breeders’ Cup was at Santa Anita, Zenyatta made history, becoming the first filly or mare to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
The Breeders’ Cup is back at Santa Anita this year, and tonight, HRTV will broadcast a 30-minute special about the mare, celebrating her career and the effect that she had on racing fans across the country.
Produced by Kristen Rocky, the special is part of a longer DVD that will be available from HRTV this fall. Zenyatta’s owners, Jerry and Ann Moss, brought the project to HRTV, which was immediately enthusiastic.
“This is obviously a very personal story and we were honored to be asked,” said Amy Zimmerman, an executive producer at HRTV.
“The version to air is almost like an appetizer,” said Rocky. “The DVD will be about an hour, with an additional hour of bonus content.
That content will include, said Rocky, all 20 of Zenyatta’s races and extended footage of Zenyatta and her foal, along with a slideshow of photos.
Some of the footage comes from Zenyatta’s trainer John Shirreffs, who loaned more than five hours of home video to the production.
“He loves to film and to document his horses,” said Rocky. “We’re thrilled that we did, and a lot of his footage made it into the show.”
Viewers of the DVD can expect to see helmet-cam footage of the mare, along with film of her famously enjoying Guinness and carrot juice.
Tonight’s special will air on HRTV at 10 pm interest time, and purchase information will be available from HRTV.
I would like to purchase the documentary on Zenyatta.
When will it be available and where can I purchase it?
Hi, Debbie, I haven’t heard anything further and I didn’t see anything on the HRTV site, but I’ll see if I can find out and post it back here.
