Given the love that Evening Attire received during his racing career, it seems fitting that his birthday is Valentine’s Day. And this year, the folks at his Akindale Farm retirement home are throwing him a birthday party to which the public is invited.
With a name invoking Evening Attire’s sire, the “Black Tie Affair” will be held on Saturday, February 16 at the farm in Pawling, New York.
A fundraiser whose proceeds will support Akindale’s many retirees, the evening will feature wine, passed hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and a silent auction.
Akindale’s famous residents—Evening Attire and his half-brother Tacticianor, Callmetony, Hotstufanthensome, Stud Muffin, among others—get a lot of attention, but the farm also houses dozens of horses few people have heard of. Some get to live at Akindale forever; others are re-trained and go off to new careers.
The farm’s sprawling acreage is also home to Akindale’s breeding and racing operations, and all the horses who were bred there—even those sold or claimed–are welcome back, at any time in their careers or lives.
Tickets are $70 each and can be purchased by clicking on the image, which you can also click to enlarge. Happy birthday, Evening!

Every donation made to ATBR is money well-spent. The pictures on their Facebook page show healthy and happy horses, and those horses who are retired there are indeed the lucky ones. I wonder if Evening Attire will have his traditional peppermint birthday cake at the event !
