Great news from the Hennegan Brothers: The First Saturday in May, their film about the road to the 2006 Kentucky Derby, is going to be released in theaters for a limited run on April 18th. If it’s playing in a city near you…GO! It will be shown in eighteen major markets. Nice coverage of this in The Blood-Horse, too.
Brad and John have pledged 25% of their box office revenues, as well as a portion of revenues generated when the film is released on DVD, to the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, which raises and distributes funding for research beneficial to horses. I wrote about this organization in the previous post, as it underwrote the second Welfare and Safety of the Racehorse Summit, and it’s plugging the film on its homepage. Very cool.
I reviewed the movie when I first saw it at the Tribeca Film Festival last spring, and re-posted the review here in October. Check out the widget on the left for a trailer and to get to the Hennegan brothers’ website. AND GO SEE THE MOVIE!
Here are this week’s Take 10! standings. Not good news for many of our stables, but both Val and the Quinella Queen jumped four spots. You can read a re-cap of March races here, and this weekend we’ve got the Lane’s End at Turfway Park—where I will, so luckily, be.
