Can Oxbow Bring Calumet Farm Back to the Kentucky Derby Winner’s Circle?

The last time a Calumet horse won the Kentucky Derby, Bobby Goldsboro had the #1 song in the country, the National Hockey League had just expanded from six teams to twelve, and a gallon of gas cost about 35 cents.

The year was 1968, and the horse was Forward Pass, the last of eight Calumet horses to win America’s most famous horse race.

This year, under new ownership, Calumet Farm will hope to get back to the winner’s circle at Churchill Downs.

  1. Would love to see it! I have so much admiration and love for Calumet Farm. It would be great to see the NYY of horseracing return to prominence. I would highly recommend the book Wild Ride by Ann Hagedorn for anyone who loves history and horseracing .

  2. Teresa, I posted this article on linkedin to hopefully get more people to see and share it. Ironically I was talking about the IMH at the Kentucky horse park on linkedin and someone had mentioned the Calumet trophy room in the museum. What a powerful statement to winning and excellence. The last Big horse I remember them having was Criminal Type.
