Old Friends & Akindale Come to Saratoga

Two high-profile Thoroughbred aftercare organizations will have a presence today in Saratoga.

Old Friends at Cabin Creek is holding an open house this evening to celebrate Palace Malice’s victory in the Belmont Stakes. Join Cot and Anne Campbell, Todd Pletcher, Mike Smith, and co-0wner Charlie Pigg from from 6:30-8 p.m.  at Anne’s Washington Inn, 111 South Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY. Beer and wine will be served, with catering by Mama Mia’s. All are welcome, and donations will be accepted.

During the race day, stop by NYRA’s Community Relations booth to learn more about Akindale Thoroughbred Rescue, home of Evening Attire, Stud Muffin, Callmetony, Hotstufanthensome, and dozens of others retired Thoroughbreds. Erin Pfister, the manager of the farm’s rescue and retirement division, will be on hand to talk about the farm’s operations and equine stars, and to accept donations.

The Community Relations booth is located just inside the main Union Avenue gates, outside the jockeys’ silks room.

You can learn more Akindale in my column in today’s Saratogian.
