Animal Tales: Picture Books Starring…Your Horse

Animal Tales book coverLooking for a gift for the equine (or feline, or canine) lover in your life? Want your gift to do some good?  Hoping for something with a little personal touch, that’s not too expensive and that you can buy from home?

Animal Tales may have just what you’re looking for.

The latest product from the folks who brought you ResQThreads and ResQWalk, Animal Tales is an app (iOS only at this point, Android in early 2015) that allows you to upload a photo of your pet into a virtual or hard-copy storybook.  The electronic book is free; the printed copy, produced by Animal Tales and sent to you, is $12, with 20% of the proceeds going to the more than 1,000 animal rescue organizations already supported by ResQThreads and ResQWalk (for Canadian orders, add another $5; for interntional, another $7).

All Animal Tales stories are written and illustrated by professional authors, and a new story is released each week. Expect holiday-themed stories through the year, with a Valentine’s Day book in the works.

Current titles include “A Job for Molly,” “Mac the Holiday Helper,” and “Roger’s Amazing Search for a Home.” Titles are customized with the name of your horse or pet.

The app is easy to use and stories take literally less than a minute to create—here’s mine for Akindale’s recently retired homebred, Coaltown Legend.

“The stories are supposed to be simple,” said ResQThreads founder Bailey Schroeder, “but also cute enough for adults to enjoy the experience of seeing their pets doing all these crazy things.”

Schroeder can also foresee creating a story that will allow rescue groups to promote their adoptable animals.

Printed books are 5.5” x 5.5”, and users order and pay (via major credit card or PayPal) directly from the app. Books ship via USPS within 3 business days, and can be sent directly to gift recipients, with a personalized dedication on the inside front cover.

The Animal Tales app is available for free download from the Apple’s App Store, as is the ResQWalk app (iOS and Android), which contributes money to designated rescues in exchange for your logging the miles you walk through the app (and which I heartily endorse and use every day).

Like ResQThreads and ResQWalk, Animal Tales is on Facebook and Twitter.

Animal-loving authors and illustrators out there:  If you’re interested creating an Animal Tale, email info@resqthreads.com with your story idea and links to previous work(s). All authors are expected to provide both illustrations and text.
