Need a little weekday diversion? Like to get dressed up? Ever wanted to own a racehorse?
The Belmont Child Care Association has just the event for you.
On Thursday, May 28, the BCCA will host a luncheon and fashion show at the Garden City Hotel in Garden City, Long Island (not far from Belmont Park). Honoring Major Chuck Kilbride, a retired US Marine and the chairman of Toys for Tots, and Linda Mangano, the wife of Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, the event will feature shopping, cocktails, and the chance to win a share of a West Point Thoroughbreds racehorse.
The Belmont Child Care Association offers low-cost child care on a sliding scale to the workers on the Belmont and Aqueduct backstretches. Its child care/early education center, Anna House, opens 365 days a year at 5 am, preparing students for their entry into kindergarten; it also offers after-school programs for older children.
Long time BCCA supporters
West Point Thoroughbreds is donating a 2.5% interest in 2-year-old New York-bred Harmony Lass (Eskendereya-Sambora, by Holy Bull), a $50,000 purchase at last month’s OBS sale.
The winner of the share will have access to the paddock, backstretch, and (hopefully!) winner’s circle; invitations to partner events; and assistance with race day accommodations. The winner is eligible for net purse distributions, if any, after expenses and is not responsible for any capital calls associated with maintaining the horse, but will receive a 1099 for any racetrack earnings distributions made during the horse’s racing career, excluding sales proceeds. The retail value of the interest is $4,725. You must be present to win.
