On the day that the Holy Bull Stakes was run at Gulfstream Park, a son of that 1994 Horse of the Year added to his Kentucky Derby points total with a win in the Grade III Withers at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, New York.

Sunny Ridge earned 10 Derby points with his Withers win, adding to the eights point he won with runner-up finishes in the Grade I Champagne at Belmont Park last October and the Grade III Delta Jackpot at Delta Downs in Louisiana in November. His 18 points put him at #3 on the Kentucky Derby leaderboard, in comfortable position to make the starting gate on the first Saturday in May, but the run for the roses is not, according to his trainer, a major target for the horse’s 2016 campaign.
