It all started with a bunch of Google alerts.
“We started seeing notifications for Audible popping up in our newsfeed, and we went, ‘Wait, this isn’t about us. This is about a horse,’” said John Harrobin, senior vice president of marketing at Audible the audiobook company.
Audible the horse began to get national attention in early February, when he won the Grade 2 Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park by 5 1/2 lengths. The race is an official prep race for the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve, and Audible’s performance landed him on a number of lists of top ten Derby prospects.
“I was really interested and I wanted to do something really fun with this,” said Harrobin. “So I called WinStar Farm and asked to talk to somebody who could help.”
