On January 26, 2017, I was sitting in the Perlmutter Cancer Center in Manhattan, receiving the fourth of 16 scheduled treatments of chemotherapy and antibodies following a breast cancer diagnosis.
That day at Aqueduct, a maiden claimer trained by Mike Hushion, who had also undergone cancer treatment, won the first race by a nose. The chart for the race said that the winner “got engaged in a spirited tussle,” and I texted Hushion, suggesting that the three-year-old might be my namesake.
His name is T Loves a Fight.
