Horses trained by Bill Mott have made more than 29,000 starts. They’ve won more than 5,600 races, which means they’ve lost more than 23,800 times. 

He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998, and he ranks fourth on the all-time list of trainers by earnings and eighth by number of wins. He’s trained two Kentucky Derby winners and two Belmont Stakes winners, won five Eclipse Awards for Outstanding Trainer and 16 Breeders’ Cup races, including his most recent just last year.

So, Mott has nothing to prove to anyone.

But heading into Saturday’s Whitney Stakes, the race in which his 2025 Kentucky Derby winner, Belmont winner and reigning Horse of the Year Sovereignty will try to win his first race this year, Mott admits that he’s feeling some pressure.
