OK, folks, the prep races start this weekend, so here’s last call to join the Brooklyn Backstretch Road to the Roses charity league for 2012.
This is the fifth year we’ve done this year, and as in past years, the winner of our league will have a donation made in his or her name to the racing charity of his or her choice. Past recipients include the Belmont Child Care Association, the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund, Days End Farm Horse Rescue, ReRun, All About Spay Neuter, and Old Friends at Cabin Creek.
I pledge $75; in past years, league members have voluntarily contributed, and last year, our donation totaled $600. In the four years of our league’s existence, we’ve donated nearly $2,000 to racing-related charities; this year’s pledges are already over $800 — that’s your generosity at work!
You don’t need to contribute to win…just join! Standings will be posted here regularly, and last year we ended up with a dead heat, with donations going to three terrific organizations.
Only one rule: one stable per person, please. If you’ve enrolled more than one, please let me know which one you’d like me to delete, or I’ll decide for you. 🙂
So finalize your stable and start collecting points—you can join our league with this information:
League Name: Brooklyn Backstretch
League Identifier: 1513977600
Activation Code: 2496062994
If you’re interested in contributing to the donation, please e-mail me, leave a comment, or contact me through Facebook (message or at the Brooklyn Backstretch page) or Twitter. And while you’re at it, follow on Twitter and “like” on Facebook!
I send in all the donations en masse when the contest is over, so when the winner has chosen his or her recipient(s), I’ll ask you to send me a check in the amount you pledged, made out to the organization. If you’d like to contribute before then, contact me and we’ll work something out.
Thanks for playing and good luck & safe trips to all!
